School vs. Neighborhood

Objective: Students will learn the different people that work in the world around them and will be able to know who goes where.

Education Technology Standard 7: Use telecommunications and on-line resources (e.g., email, online discussions, web environments) to participate in collaborative problem-solving activities to develop solutions or products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.
  • Using Google Docs has been a great tool to get familiar with. It allows you to do many things that are similar to a word program but it is useful that it automatically saves for you. This way if you have lots of things on your mind and forget to save there is no problem. I think this tool will become the most used tool because of how convenient it is and how it connects to your email. It just makes everything easy and accessible.
  • I think as the world progresses and technology is put more into school this is a tool that many kids will learn to use. I think it is helpful for the older kids but not the younger kids. They are still learning to write their words and can't type very fast or at all. So I don't think the kids will need to use this tool just yet. More is taken out when they can see what they are writing and how each letter is formed.
  • Knowing who people are around them is super important and it allows the students to connect the dots in their minds of the people they see. To make sure that they fully understand, I will go through who works at our school with their names and what jobs they see outside of school. Afterwards, I will give them this worksheet and from this they will show me what they know and where each person fits in the world. If this doesn't work, I will make a similar worksheet or try to help them understand in a different way.
