Weather & Seasons

Objective: Students will be able to tell what the different seasons are and what weather fits into each season.

Educational Technology Standard 5: Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.

  • This tool was fun to learn how to use because it is a lot like a power point but it has some different features and designs to it. I can see me using this tool as time goes on but not all the time or it will get boring and the kids will loose interest in what I am trying to teach them.
  • I think the students would like to use this as a part of their learning but it would need to be for small amounts of time. There is only so long that a child can sit still and look at a slide show and pay attention. It will be best used in fun ways to capture and keep their attention for a little bit.
  • I am using this power point to introduce the topic of weather and the seasons. It could also be modified to be a quiz or a review over the topic. It is a good way to get the kids into the topic and have some interaction as they start into any new topic that they have heard before but haven't gone deep into. I think it is a nice way to get kids into the technology that is around them and it is a pretty simple tool that they could learn how to use it.

All about punctuation!

Objective: Students will learn how to end a sentence correctly using the correct punctuation.

Standard Technology Standard 5: Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.

  • I loved getting to use this new tool! It was so much fun creating a quiz and I know for sure that I will be using this tool very often. It will help a lot with grading and seeing how well concepts are being understood among the students.
  • I think the students will really come to love these little quizzes or homework assignments. We are moving into a teaching world that is going to be using technology all the time and really no pen and paper will be used. This will become a great way to get students used to using technology in a good way and it will help further their education in many ways.
  • I haven't decided which way I will use this quiz. I think it is a good enough quiz to be taken before or after teaching the concept. It can be a good review after you have taught the subject or it can be used to see where the students stand with their punctuation. Anyway, I think it is a great way to have the students go online and use the technology they are around every second of their lives.

School vs. Neighborhood

Objective: Students will learn the different people that work in the world around them and will be able to know who goes where.

Education Technology Standard 7: Use telecommunications and on-line resources (e.g., email, online discussions, web environments) to participate in collaborative problem-solving activities to develop solutions or products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.
  • Using Google Docs has been a great tool to get familiar with. It allows you to do many things that are similar to a word program but it is useful that it automatically saves for you. This way if you have lots of things on your mind and forget to save there is no problem. I think this tool will become the most used tool because of how convenient it is and how it connects to your email. It just makes everything easy and accessible.
  • I think as the world progresses and technology is put more into school this is a tool that many kids will learn to use. I think it is helpful for the older kids but not the younger kids. They are still learning to write their words and can't type very fast or at all. So I don't think the kids will need to use this tool just yet. More is taken out when they can see what they are writing and how each letter is formed.
  • Knowing who people are around them is super important and it allows the students to connect the dots in their minds of the people they see. To make sure that they fully understand, I will go through who works at our school with their names and what jobs they see outside of school. Afterwards, I will give them this worksheet and from this they will show me what they know and where each person fits in the world. If this doesn't work, I will make a similar worksheet or try to help them understand in a different way.
